florence and the machine ceremonials cover art

On her second album, Florence Welch was out of control with production. With this live record it seems like she is trying... Ceremonials (2011) sounded as if Florence wanted to be the new Kate Bush, but on the road had become the new Enya. Once the shock was overcome and Florence... The ceremony remains the same, but now it's more intimate, and even includes a Johnny Cash cover version played with Josh Homme. And all of this to make us not to have doubt...

Florence + the Machine's MTV Unplugged special is heavy on material from 2011's Ceremonials, but ultimately underwhelming.... The setlist isn't without its pleasures – the aforementioned “Never Let Me Go” sounds as heavenly here as it did on Ceremonials, and guest star Josh Homme sounds terrific on pleasant cover of “Jackson”. But, as awesome as Florence + the Machine sounds on record, and as immaculate as Florence's wail is throughout, MTV Unplugged...
