Went finally up the hill yesterday… from a distance it is possible to see darker patches of desert sand where houses used to be… some of them with the painted back wall still in place up against the slope…the remaining houses look... a look around and take a few snapshots with a disposable camera of the pitiful remains of what was just one of several villages lying before the cliffs that separate the west bank of Thebes from the Valley of the Kings (Wadi Muluk)…

The types of soil where the Valley of the Kings is located are an alternating sandwich of dense limestone and other sedimentary rock (which form the cliffs in the valley and the nearby Deir el-Bahri) and soft layers of marl.
