The 28-year-old shares the story in his new job as a peer-support specialist at the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center. It was November 2004, and Brown, a U.S. Army infantryman serving in the Iraq War, was back home in Erie for the first time since deploying to Baghdad nine months earlier. Brown was 20 years old.
