budapest parliament building coat of arms

Budapest. Posted on March 4, 2012. Eight hours ago, I was standing on a balcony overlooking the magnificent Saint Stephen's Basilica in Budapest, Hungary. The grand arches and incredible dome were lit up with a soft, yellow light and soft bells began to ring to mark the start of the hour. Now, as I write this .... The flag flies above a single grave that is in memory of the several hundreds of people that died on the steps of the Parliament building due to a firing squad in October of 1956.
